How Many Offices Will I Need to Visit for My Dental Implant Procedure?
The cosmetic dentists at Cooley Smiles do not perform the actual dental implant procedure. We work with a group of oral surgeons to place the implant itself, and then we will provide the dental crowns for your implant in our office. As a result, your dental implant procedure will require you to visit two different offices.
Why Don't You Perform the Dental Implant Procedure In-house?
Implant dentistry is best left up to implant specialists. Our Cooley Smiles dentists do not offer the service in-house because they believe the superior quality and functional results that can be achieved through implants require an experienced oral surgeon. Our Cooley Smiles dentists work with some of the finest specialists in the Seattle area, and they will make sure the implant portion of your procedure will be performed to the highest standards in the field of dentistry.
How Many Appointments Will be Required for My Implants?
You can expect your procedure to take three to four office visits. You will require two visits with your oral surgeon and two with one of our Cooley Smiles dentists. At your first visit with the oral surgeon, your dental implant will be inserted into your jawbone. It will then take several months for the jawbone to fuse with the implant. Once this process has been completed, you will return to the oral surgeon to receive the titanium abutment which gets attached to your dental implant.
Your appointments at Cooley Smiles will consist of making a porcelain crown to fit over your implant, and then placing the crown once it has been created by our dental lab.
Why Should I Consider Dental Implants?
Dental implants are the most effective way to replace missing teeth. They are secured directly into your jawbone and are much better equipped to handle tasks like chewing than alternatives such as dental bridges and dentures. Dental implants also prevent additional oral health issues such as jaw collapse and shifting teeth. Unlike dentures, dental implants are entirely secure, reducing the inconvenience and embarrassment associated with having your teeth slip or fall out.
Do Dental Implants Hurt?
Your oral surgeon will make the placement of your implants as pain free as possible. Advances in sedation dentistry allow every dental procedure to be comfortable and safe. Once your implants have been placed, your jaw will accept them as part of your body, and you should not experience any discomfort at all.
