When is the Last Time You Brushed the Roof of Your Mouth?]

Posted on 9/6/2021 by Dr. Brandon Cooley
When is the Last Time You Brushed the Roof of Your Mouth? You should heed the advice from dentists around the world to brush your teeth twice a day. It is crucial to take care of your teeth by brushing, flossing, and rinsing. However, is it important to brush the roof of your mouth?

Brush The Roof of Your Mouth

The purpose of brushing is to remove food debris, which is left from your meal or snack. That food debris adheres to the tooth structure or tongue. If the food debris sticks around on your teeth, it will start the process of tooth decay. If the food debris accumulates on your tongue, you can expect to have bad breath in a few hours. In general, food does not adhere to the roof of your mouth, except for peanut butter in the short term.

If you want to make sure that you do not have leftover food debris on the roof of your mouth, you may certainly brush it. You could do this once a day, which would be adequate. Brush your palette gently and sweep away any leftover food particles. While there is a lot of microbial activity in your mouth, generally, with swishing and drinking water between meals, you are able to wash away any leftover bacteria from the roof of your mouth.
