What is Considered a Dental Emergency?Life presents us with life-threatening instances which require urgent attention. Emergencies emanating from all kinds of fieldwork do require quick and immediate attention. While not all dental problems and concerns are emergencies, some dental conditions require immediate action. Any dental problem requiring immediate attention is a dental emergency. When you have such an emergency it's advisable that you immediately seek professional instructions from your dental healthcare provider. This helps deal squarely with any eventualities. Some of the common dental emergencies are.

Broken or Dislocated Jaw


Dislocation results mostly from traffic accidents involving motorcycles, and bicycles, contact sports injuries, and falls at home. Jaw dislocation can be best handled by your dentist at the hospital. This helps him or her to do a thorough assessment, diagnosis, and fix the problem.

Mouth Sores


Mouth sores can be an early indicator of gum disease and require emergency prevention care. Sores may result from mouth-brace abrasions. This may also bleed to bleeding teeth and gums. Bleeding gums and teeth is an emergency and requires the necessary attention even if there is no cause for panic. This is because the presence of blood in saliva may be pointing to advanced stages of gum disease and cancer.

Tooth Infection Emergency


Another example of a dental emergency is a tooth infection. Because it can lead to tooth abscess, tooth infection may require early attention. To avoid serious nerve and health problems caused by untreated tooth infections, it is important to visit your dentist for proper consultation.

Broken or knocked-out teeth also require immediate dental health attention to fix them within good time to save them.

Prevention of Dental Emergencies


Dental Emergencies are caused by contact sports injuries, bicycle falls, and motor vehicle accidents. Other causes include eating hard foods, home falls, work accidents and fist fights that can result in dental emergencies.

To prevent contact sports injuries, it is advisable to put on protective gear like a mouth guard to avoid related dental injuries. Avoiding or limiting the eating of hard foods like candies can help prevent of some these injuries.
