Which Is The Right Treatment For Toothache?

Which Is The Right Treatment For Toothache? The first thing that comes into many people's minds when they experience toothache is over-the-counter painkillers. While this medication can stop tooth pain in the short term, it does not treat the root cause of pain. This means that the pain might come back after some time. The best way to eliminate tooth pain is by finding the potential cause first.

A toothache can result from several issues such as tooth decay, abscessed tooth, damaged filling, or tooth fracture. If left untreated, these oral complications can lead to jaw bone or tooth loss. At some point, the bacteria infection can spread to other body parts, causing serious issues. In this case, it is best to consult a dentist anytime you experience tooth pain. Your dentist can use effective treatments for toothache pain. The most common treatments include:

Root Canal

Before a dentist creates a treatment plan, he will examine your tooth to know the cause of the pain. If the pain results from an infection of the tooth's nerves, the specialist may recommend a root canal. When bacteria enter the root's inner space, you may experience tooth infection. Your dentist will remove the infected pulp, clean the tooth, and replace the pulp with sealing materials.

Antibiotics

Sometimes, the dentist may prescribe antibiotics since it acts as anti-bacterial medication. When the infection is damaged, the pain is likely to disappear. However, antibiotics don't work overnight. It may take several days to completely destroy the bacteria causing infection.

Drainage

You may also experience tooth pain due to interior infection. In this case, the dentist may recommend infection drainage. This involves draining the tooth to clear out the infection. After this procedure, thorough tooth cleaning is performed to ensure that the area is healthy and bacteria-free. It is good to understand that there is no best treatment for toothache. The dentist creates a treatment plan based on the cause of the pain.
